Okay, so I could not find any sort of map or layout of Night Vale and (being a huge nerd who used to make D&D Maps for her brother) I took it upon myself to make a large, comprehensive, and possibly entirely incorrect series of maps which I will have to continually alter as new podcasts come out. This is just how I picture it. I re-listened through the whole thing and took down a bunch of notes haha. I think it’s all as correct as it can be (at least as far as “First Date”). If anyone notices something incorrect please let me know.

(btw you can open that first map up in a new tab to see it better)

OpenDyslexic is a free-to-use font that is designed to help those with dyslexia read better. The text is weighted, having a heavier bottom, which is thought to increase readability for dyslexic people. You can download it for free here.
I don’t have dyslexia myself, but in the event any of my followers do, I thought I’d share. Maybe it will help people.

i wish everything was in this type of text.

What the fuck. It usually takes me a lot longer to read something like that and then I just wooshed through it and it was like ZOOM and I was like ‘I know exactly what the fuck I just read. Holy shit.’
I need to go to bed.

I don’t have dyslexia, but I know at least a few of you guys do. This really helps? If so that is awesome and brb I’m going to go throw it at everyone I know.

Kobo ereaders have this on them! I verified that myself when I was checking out a Kobo Mini prior to purchasing it. :)

"The Steubenville rape victim was certainly someone’s daughter. She may have been someone’s sister. Someday she might even be someone’s wife. But these are not the reasons why raping her was wrong. This rape, and any rape, was wrong because women are people. Women are people, rape is wrong, and no one should ever be raped. End of story.

The “wives, sisters, daughters” line of argument comes up all the fucking time. President Obama even used it in his State of the Union address this year, saying,

“We know our economy is stronger when our wives, mothers, and daughters can live their lives free from discrimination in the workplace, and free from the fear of domestic violence.”

This device, which Obama has used on more than one occasion, is reductive as hell. It defines women by their relationships to other people, rather than as people themselves. It says that women are only important when they are married to, have given birth to, or have been fathered by other people. It says that women are only important because of who they belong to.

Women are not possessions.

Women are people."

I don’t care which one or from where or what time period or comic arc. Any Tim Drake. There are 20 billion versions of him at this point, pick one. (Though almost all of them are: smart, sassy, incredibly geeky, fiercely loyal, and completely deprived of any lasting happiness.)

I’d just like to know that other people like him please. The people currently in charge of him certainly don’t.

Canadian, Cat-Loving Tumblrers, I need your attention, please.

To the Canadian cat lovers of Tumblr, from Ontario; the Valleyfield SPCA is giving out free cats due to the over-population within their establishment. One-hundred cats are being given away, and they must find a home by the end of February, 2013. If these cats don’t find a home, they will be euthanized.

All of these cats have been vaccinated, de-wormed, had flea treatments, and fixed. These cats are all very friendly, affectionate and lovable- they do not deserve to be put to sleep like this. The cats are all one year old, and in desperate need of a home. If you know someone within the area looking for a free, treated and healthy cat- throw them in this direction. Please.

I just can’t stand to see this, as a cat lover myself. I already have two who do not like new-comers, and I’m not in the area or financial stability to take another in. Please, please, please; consider these poor cats. They deserve better than this. Ugh, this is making me cry. Please, take a look. Spread the word around. See if we can save a few lives. These babies deserve better than this. Please. Look at them. They deserve a family too.

If you have any questions, please direct them to the KIJIJI PAGE made to try and get the information out there.

TL;DR: Free cats. All de-wormed, given flea treatments, fixed, and vaccinated. If they aren’t found homes by the end of February they will be put to sleep. Kijiji page is above, for the Valleyfield SPCA. Please help them find a home and save a few lives, please.

Oh my… these poor guys. If I wasn’t so fresh off losing Toast… :/

please just ship them all over to me thank you

;A; OH GOD WHY AM I SO FAR AWAY FROM THEM

PLEASE IF YOU ARE IN CANADA REBLOG THIS PLEASE

PLEASE HELP THESE KITTIES
PLEASE

My cat was a shelter cat. A former stray to boot. You cannot find a friendly cat in all the world. If you’re looking for a pet, and are in the area, please consider adopting one of these cats.

Obviously, these figures don’t include children killed in Somalia & Afghanistan.
If ever these strikes are reported in the MSM, many of these children are listed as “militants,” a word redefined by President Obama to mean any male of military age in a strike zone, so as to disguise the number of children killed by his drone policy. Under this abuse of presidential power with lack of judicial oversight, Obama has escalated George W. Bush’s drone program more than five times over.
Not only are children & civilians caught in strike zones, but drones are killing rescuers & family members with the “double tap” method, a second strike in the same zone. The “double tap” is considered to be a war crime under international law.

So… terribly…accurate

It’s taboo to admit that you’re lonely. You can make jokes about it, of course. You can tell people that you spend most of your time with Netflix or that you haven’t left the house today and you might not even go outside tomorrow. Ha ha, funny. But rarely do you ever tell people about the true depths of your loneliness, about how you feel more and more alienated from your friends each passing day and you’re not sure how to fix it. It seems like everyone is just better at living than you are.

A part of you knew this was going to happen. Growing up, you just had this feeling that you wouldn’t transition well to adult life, that you’d fall right through the cracks. And look at you now. La di da, it’s happening.

Your mother, your father, your grandparents: they all look at you like you’re some prized jewel and they tell you over and over again just how lucky you are to be young and have your whole life ahead of you. “Getting old ain’t for sissies,” your father tells you wearily.

You wish they’d stop saying these things to you because all it does is fill you with guilt and panic. All it does is remind you of how much you’re not taking advantage of your youth.

You want to kiss all kinds of different people, you want to wake up in a stranger’s bed maybe once or twice just to see if it feels good to feel nothing, you want to have a group of friends that feels like a tribe, a bonafide family. You want to go from one place to the next constantly and have your weekends feel like one long epic day. You want to dance to stupid music in your stupid room and have a nice job that doesn’t get in the way of living your life too much. You want to be less scared, less anxious, and more willing. Because if you’re closed off now, you can only imagine what you’ll be like later.

Every day you vow to change some aspect of your life and every day you fail. At this point, you’re starting to question your own power as a human being. As of right now, your fears have you beat. They’re the ones that are holding your twenties hostage.

Stop thinking that everyone is having more sex than you, that everyone has more friends than you, that everyone out is having more fun than you. Not because it’s not true (it might be!) but because that kind of thinking leaves you frozen. You’ve already spent enough time feeling like you’re stuck, like you’re watching your life fall through you like a fast dissolve and you’re unable to hold on to anything.

I don’t know if you ever get better. I don’t know if a person can just wake up one day and decide to be an active participant in their life. I’d like to think so. I’d like to think that people get better each and every day but that’s not really true. People get worse and it’s their stories that end up getting forgotten because we can’t stand an unhappy ending. The sick have to get better. Our normalcy depends upon it.

You have to value yourself. You have to want great things for your life. This sort of shit doesn’t happen overnight but it can and will happen if you want it.

Do you want it bad enough? Does the fear of being filled with regret in your thirties trump your fear of living today?

We shall see.

imagepurplemika replied to your post: Help?

That last contemplation about actually entering a relationship with her in a vaguely positive/wistful light really creeps me out. Otherwise, it’s more sad than creepy.

Yeah, that bit…I had it plotted before I realized how young my timeline had her at that point. I knew she was going to be an age the guy thought of as ‘too young to be in a relationship’, but not quite that young. Does it helps that it’s pretty clear in story that a)he’s thinking of a future where she’s a grown adult, and b)it’s possibly romantic but not at all sexual at that point?

He’s sort of losing himself to a corruption curse, so he’s not thinking entirely as he would in his right mind, but he wants more than anything else for her to be well and happy. He’d like it  if she was happy with him, whether in a platonic or romantic context, but his priority is her well-being, regardless of where he comes into it.

If you made all the stuff in the second paragraph pretty clear then yeah, I’d say it’s less creepy. I mean, still creepy and not good, but it’d be clear that YOU don’t think it’s good either.

I hope I can make it clear. The difficulty of writing characters who are objectively, thoroughly, fucked-up is making sure the reader understands you’re not endorsing their thought processes.

The girl has her own set issues, as a result of her child homelessness, and since There Are No Therapists, plus she also can’t talk to anyone she knows about her childhood, (because she’s pretending to be of upper-class origins) she has a lot of trouble moving on from the memory of the one person who did know about her issues and accepted her anyway.

She misses being accepted, and she has trouble loving anyone because she can’t be fully honest with them. So for the rest of her life, she spends a lot of time longing for the guy. Not really in a romantic sense, specifically, so much as wanting to be with someone she feels safe around.

(The time she spends missing him does not stop her from growing up to be a HBIC, and getting a lot of shit done over her lifetime, but it does make her very unhappy for the rest of her life.)

So the difficulty is both these characters think of the situation in a positive/bittersweet light, and I need to be faithful to that in their pov sections, while still somehow conveying that the situation is really unhealthy, and a romance between the two would be a bad idea.
