I really love this song. On the simplest level it’s because it’s funny and engaging and on my ‘dance like an idiot’ list.

As a writer, I love it because of how well it lays out the ‘world’, with slang, attitudes, implied procedures, allegiances and hostilities all built in. Plus there’s this line, which never fails to make me smile:

Well, we shot the line and we went for broke
With a thousand screamin’ trucks
An’ eleven long-haired Friends of Jesus
In a chartreuse micro-bus.

Listening to it always makes me want to start writing.

sigma-frost asked: You know that song about Cruella DeVille that Selena Gomez sang? I just imagined that to an AMV of Janet Drake; I think it'd look awesome :D

I just went and listened to it. God, yes, such a Janet song. Even better than ‘Blood in the Water’. I wonder if there’s a cover of it somewhere- can you imagine if there was a lounge music version? (I’m mentally hearing it sung by someone who sounds like this.)

I need to find a good fan-cast for Janet so I can picture that.

This song reminds me of Tim and his relationship with his family in recent canon.

My Angst playlist. Yes, I know. I have an terrible fondness for female pop musicians. There’s no accounting for taste.

1. Winter, by Tori Amos
He says When you gonna make up your mind When you gonna love you as much as I do?
2. Mad World, by Alex Park
And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I’m dying Are the best I’ve ever had
3. War Child, by The Cranberries
At times of war we’re all the losers, There’s no victory. We shoot to kill and kill your lover, Fine by me.
4. Dark Side, by Kelly Clarkson
There’s a place that I know it’s not pretty there and few have ever gone if I show it to you now will it make you run away?
5. Wide Awake, by Katy Perry
I was falling hard With an open heart I’m wide awake How did I read the stars so wrong?
6. Thistle and Weed, by Mumford and Sons
I begged you to hear me, there’s more than flesh and bones Let the dead bury the dead, they will come out in droves
7. Words, by Skylar Gray
It’s so loud inside my head With words that I should have said And as I drown in my regrets I can’t take back the words I never said
8. Breathe Me, by Sia
Ouch I have lost myself again Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found, Yeah I think that I might break I’ve lost myself again and I feel unsafe
9. Wanted, by Vanessa Carlton
I am more than you will see, I am more than you will need, I am more than you will see, more than wanted

Hello, new Tim Drake song.

"Everybody’s got a dark side
Do you love me?
Can you love mine?”

I make no claim to historicity, coherence, or origin. This is primarily Iranian, Afghani and Persian music I found online that seemed to suit Ra’s. I suspect most middle eastern people would fall over laughing at my attempt at this, but dammit. I had to try.

Tolou’, (Ardeshir Kamkar, Sharvin Mohajer)

Ya Rayah, (Rachid Taha)

Tariq, (Adel Salameh)

Traditional Oud, (Minir Bashir, Omar Bashir)

Sultan’s Delight, (Rada Darwish)

Reng e Zanganeh, (Ardeshir Kamkar, Faraj Alipour)

Burning of the Temple, (Djinn)

Shab Ayum, (Turku)
